I have definitely enjoyed reading The Hunger Games trilogy, yet I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous two. But I guess it depends on what you've liked about the series so farโ€”the world-building and challenging political ideas in the second book or (for me) the action of the first Hunger Games.

Woooh! This book was messy! Does it make me toxic that I liked it?! I cannot imagine a better ending than what was given. To be fair this was my least favorite Katniss for like the majority of this book (even though I understand she was dealing with a lot). However, the final stand in the capital was riveting and heartbreaking.

Even the way Suzanne Collins writes about the political and economic struggle that finally boils over. I still have tons of questions but this series deserves a standing ovation! Bravo!!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

A beautiful and poignant book. Amazing reread as an adult. So many great themes rolled into one book.

thoughts while reading

p55: oh my goodness, i see what people meant when they said the book was darker
p147: itโ€™s writing like this that makes you wonder whether suzanne collins secretly planned The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes all along. she strikes me as the type of writer that already has several stories lined up, but i simply waiting for exactly the right moment to release each one
p157: the deleted film scene ๐Ÿ™€

A pang of jealousy hits me. Not for either Finnick or Annie but for their certainty. No one seeing them could doubt their love.
i know how that feels

p237: gale is an all-in kinda guy, he doesnโ€™t do anything by halfs. this is how love dies, slowly, then all at once
p365: ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
p402: gale is
telling you to shoot him
, even i know that and iโ€™m not his best friend. youโ€™re just subconsciously ignoring him
p406: i would love to know what political reason suzanne collins has for
killing off prim

He just asks if I feel like talking, and when I don't answer, he falls asleep in his chair. In fact, I think his visits are largely motivated by his need for a nap. The arrangement works for both of us.

p454: imagine having to deal with your kid knowing such a traumatic part of your past
