dark emotional sad

Wow ok. That was depressing. I didn’t expect
ever single death to hit me that hard, but especially Prim’s death hurt the most. I really appreciated the last chapter and epilogue of things getting better, because man that was depressing. Katniss’ depression, dissociation, and other trauma responses were, in my opinion, well written to allow readers to easily understand her headspace and reasoning.

The one thing that confused me, and honestly pissed me off, is how Katniss voted yes to one last hunger games. Like what?? Girl, the hunger games are what got you here and you’re ok with another one???? Huh????????
Edit: I’ve read some fan theories and I kinda get it now.

Everything else about the ending, I was pretty satisfied with. The only thing is that I would have liked to know is Anne’s ok. I understand why that wouldn’t have been included in the end, but I just really hoped that she would be alright eventually.

Also I’m trying to fill out some content warnings and realizing how dark this book was. Like really really dark.

thoughts while reading

p55: oh my goodness, i see what people meant when they said the book was darker
p147: it’s writing like this that makes you wonder whether suzanne collins secretly planned The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes all along. she strikes me as the type of writer that already has several stories lined up, but i simply waiting for exactly the right moment to release each one
p157: the deleted film scene 🙀

A pang of jealousy hits me. Not for either Finnick or Annie but for their certainty. No one seeing them could doubt their love.
i know how that feels

p237: gale is an all-in kinda guy, he doesn’t do anything by halfs. this is how love dies, slowly, then all at once
p365: 💔💔💔💔💔
p402: gale is
telling you to shoot him
, even i know that and i’m not his best friend. you’re just subconsciously ignoring him
p406: i would love to know what political reason suzanne collins has for
killing off prim

He just asks if I feel like talking, and when I don't answer, he falls asleep in his chair. In fact, I think his visits are largely motivated by his need for a nap. The arrangement works for both of us.

p454: imagine having to deal with your kid knowing such a traumatic part of your past
