I started reading this manga expecting it to be about defying gender norms and finding peace in being genderqueer and I got.... You have to choose a gender or you die. Yikes. I read up until volume 6 to see if it would improve but it does not. I'm non-binary and this is such terrible representation. It really says sorry but you got to choose and that's just not true.
Also dear lord the heteronormativity is strong in the earlier volumes. It talks a bit about potential bi or homosexuality later on but it takes so much time to ge there and it's always a maybe.
The "Date me and become x gender" thing was so violent and jarring to me it almost put me off reading the first volume and honestly I should have because it never really gets better.

If you want to read a good manga about gender go read Boys Run the Riot.

Two stars because the art is really pretty.

I... don't know. I really don't know. This could be either a really good, innovative story that talks about gender feels and expectations... or it could be a really bad story full of stereotypes that handles the topic insensitively. At this point, it could honestly be either. I can't tell. I'll probably adjust my raiting after I've read the other volumes.
(Also: I really like that the german version uses neopronouns.)
