Well written. Last section slow. The time stopping thing was out of place.

I enjoyed this book and probably liked the section talking about Mei’s life growing up in China the best, but it still left me wanting a little more. It could be the many BIG topics that were covered in the book - how do to really dive into any of them deep enough? Or maybe I just wanted to know more from some of the characters. Hiding feelings and family drama were both around throughout the book and maybe as the reader I just wanted a little more secret knowledge.

4.5 stars. I really loved Lily’s voice in her section, and (spoiler-y?) then Nick’s. I liked the explanation from the third section but it felt like it slowed down in pacing, or maybe I just didn’t like the character and voice as much as I did Lily and Nick. Really thoughtful treatment of an interesting topic.

I loved this book. Told in three different generational perspectives, it was a totally engrossing story about inheritance and opportunity, family and belonging. Would broadly recommend.
