Overview
Looking for more fairytale retellings? Trying to read more diversely? Want a fun but casual year-long challenge? Then this is the challenge for you! This challenge is structured into twelve themed prompts. Each prompt highlights a collection of fairytales and folklore based on a unifying theme.
Don’t let the theme fool you! The stories within are as diverse as their authors. The stories included in this collection have explicitly been expressed by the author or publisher as being at least inspired by their applicable tale or folklore (though with 400+ books some might have slipped through the cracks). And though, each theme coincides with suggested months, this challenge has no time limits. Feel free to read at your pace.
The goal of this challenge is to highlight retellings and inspired works written by marginalized authors and/or featuring marginalized stories. While there are some books in this collection by non-marginalized authors/featuring non-marginalized stories (less than 10%) that have been included where they felt helpful to the prompt, remember that the aim of this challenge is to diversify your retelling TBR.
Happy reading!
