Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth
dark

sad
- Loveable characters? It's complicated
2.5
I picked up Darling Girls after it was nominated in this years Goodreads Choice Awards. I have read and enjoyed Sally Hepworth before so I was looking forward to reading a new release from her.
This was definitely leaning more family drama than a mystery or a thriller, but I really enjoyed getting to know the sisters throughout the story, especially with the dual timeline and multiple narrators.
As for the plot, there were twists that really surprised me, but by the end of the story it felt too convoluted and by the end I felt detached from the characters I had come to like. Some parts of the storyline that involved adoption and abuse were really tough to read so I would recommend reading content warnings for this book if you feel like you may need them.
I will keep reading from Sally Hepworth in the future, Darling Girls may not have been the most successful for me but I do enjoy her writing style and will keep an eye out on a more interesting synopsis.
