Let’s dive straight into the review. For me, this was a decent read, though it didn’t quite grip me. I struggled to connect with the main characters. Mila was fiery, which I appreciated, but her jealousy and insecurity in the relationship often made me uncomfortable. To give some context, Holden hurt her eight years ago, and there’s an element of enemies-to-lovers in their dynamic.

Mila owns a local coffee shop and recently got married, though only a few people in town knew about it. One day, three women came in for coffee and started talking about her husband in a flirtatious, suggestive way while laughing amongst one another. Mila overheard them, overreacted, and ended up kicking them out of the coffee shop. This scene felt uncomfortable to me. For one, it’s a small town, and you’d think she’d want to keep as many customers as possible. Secondly, these women had no idea he was married.

Another thing that frustrated me was how often Mila and Holden addressed each other with “wife” or “husband” at the start of their sentences. Holden, on the other hand, had a protective and “it’s always been you” nature, which I liked, but overall, he didn’t leave much of an impression.

I did enjoy the family rivalry and the mystery surrounding Holden’s father, as it added an intriguing layer to the story. However, overall, this was an average read for me. The audiobook was fine just something I wont be left thinking about.
