The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
5.0
September 29, 2023 reread:
Honestly, I’ve probably read this book more than any other in the past decade. Every time I meet a new person, I want to read this book with them, so I wind up rereading it every 2-3 years. This time, I suggested it to one of my book clubs, reread it in anticipation of talking with new people about one of my favourite novels… and promptly got covid and had to miss the book club meeting. [sobs] In any case, The Night Circus is charming and magical – a book about two young magic-users who are in a competition to see which school of magic is better. The venue: a circus full of wonders, which our two star-crossed magicians build out with their talents. The characters are lovely, the worldbuilding is immersive, and the plot always leaves you asking “wait, how are they going to maintain this wonder without everything collapsing around them?” I will always be happy to talk about this book with literally anyone. Highly recommended.
