I've been trying to work my way through some of the older books on my TBR, and I think I added this one when I was about...15? 15 year old Veronica probably would have enjoyed this but as an adult, it just doesn't hit. The setting the author is trying to create implies 1800s-ish formal royal court, and the style of dialogue just doesn't match and really kept me from getting into it. It feels like 21st century characters squeezed into period clothing, so to speak. Also I just reached the part of the book where the hero and heroine flirting has kicked into high gear and I just can't take anymore. God I don't miss being a teenager.
