Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa

5.0

a powerful, hard to read, illuminating, heartbreaking, heavy, gripping story of a palestinian woman held captive in an israeli prison for being a terrorist. the way nahr tells her story had me completely engrossed. it’s fiction but also, it isn’t, you know? this put a full fleshed out story to what life in the middle east is like, and i’m so glad i read it, and read it now. 🤍 note that there are many trigger warnings for this one, and i personally felt that while gut wrenching to read at times, i needed to immerse myself in this one despite — and because of— the heaviness of it all.
