Structuring Your Novel: Essential Keys for Writing an Outstanding Story by K.M. Weiland

5.0

I’ve loved the K.M. Weiland books I’ve read so far (Creating Character Arcs and Writing Archetypal Character Arcs), and this one was no exception. It hit the sweet spot for me between “not too beginner” and “not too advanced.” As it says on the tin, the book is about how to structure your novel, from the hook to the resolution. I’ve read A LOT of “how to structure your novel” books at this point, so none of the information was especially new to me, but it was well presented, and I particularly appreciated the “common pitfalls” and FAQ sections. The first half of the book is on structuring the novel writ-large; the second half is divided into how to structure a scene and how to structure a sentence. I found the “sentence” section to be the weakest of the three and likely wouldn’t have read it if it weren’t for my completionist tendencies. But the rest of the book was excellent, and I highly recommend it.
