war is over. literally where to begin with this.
guess i could preface with i’m not a fantasy fan in like. any capacity. so everything can be taken w a grain of salt.
i think this started to irritate me when about like 20ish percent of the way you could literally prob make a drinking game out of how many times how teeny tiny microscopic and puny she is and you’d be hammered by this point. we get it. she’s an ant. whatever. but also what literally? still just makes me confused is. this girl is LITERALLY VERBATIM described as having “brittle bones and frail ligaments” and she is easily knocked the wind out of and a flip on the mat nearly took her out. but being slammed around to fuck is where we decide that doesn’t matter? ok. cool. i also just didnt fucking like her she was annoying and cringe and idk just did not like her, to the end did not give a fuck about her honestly. she was obnoxious and lowkey a pick me. like “I KNOW YOU LIKE ME. WE’RE IN LOVE FOR NO REASON. CMON.” like girl bye. she was also so childish and literally to be this frail girl emulating the glass bones and paper skin dude from spongebob evidently she literally was actin big and bad w everybody like girl sit your ass down! forgot she was 20 and not like 15. AND I READ A LOT OF YA SO LIKE. please. i would know.
it also annoyed me that like. she so easily just gave up the scribe idea as well???? like ok clearly she wasnt that fuckin passionate about it. and i understand, okay, i read the thing, it was bc everyone keeps telling her she cant and she did but. i just dont believe the urgency and the real like drive and passion for anything anyone does in this whole thing, especially this like. it doesn’t have gravity, her choices are just like “ok nice”.
SPEAKING OF PASSION. THE ROMANCE IN THIS WAS A JOKE GOOD AND BYE. ENEMIES FOR WHAT. BC YOU TOLD ME SO? BYE. where is the buildup. the tension. the interactions to show me real enemies. dont just tell me “oh he hates me/i hate her” and then randomly move on? like he wanted to kill you babes whats cute and hot about that. he doesnt fucking like you read the room. oh wait but he actually magically does and wanted to get with you from jump so actually scratch that i guess ???? like boring. yawning. it’s just lazy, really. and she literally hated him genuinely at the end for two seconds and then was like “no we’re in love jk” like ok.
you know what i also loved? the vague building/town/world/earth that they exist on/in. i love that i know nothing besides its old as dirt with lots of stairs and nearby places to go that are also nondescript outside of cliffs to fall off of notably. (i didn’t like it actually it was again just????)
what also pissed me off was the air of like literally making this up as it went on. like nothing was concrete set in stone, especially the abilities. like how does it go from the dragons being connected to then THE RIDERS. are magically connected as well and can speak to each other. it was for plot. all for plot. and again MADE UP AS IT WENT ALONG I SWEAR TO YOU. then the challenges like ok we couldve taken some of those out to place emphasis on the big one come the end and we could’ve got to the point a lot faster i feel. either way, there was just no point of limit or distinction for anything and it was so. i just didnt even care anymore come like 60 percent.
im sad i wanted to like this but i didnt and its fine ya know it was an experience but thank fuck its over! this is so long but i had a lot of thoughts and i still even have more thoughts but its fine!
