The Girls by Lisa Jewell

mysterious

3.0

The Girls has been the oldest book on my tbr for quite some time, so I am definitely glad to have finally got around to reading it. For me this was a standard thriller from Lisa Jewell, but not her best.
I didn’t feel much of a connection to these characters, and I didn’t like the London, communal living setting. It just made me feel uneasy (obviously intended) as someone who doesn’t exactly get to know her neighbours.
The story was quite believable when it all came out, and it definitely kept me guessing. Some parts of the conclusion were quite unsatisfying and I was left with some unanswered questions.
There’s also some mental health representation but it is hard to say if this book does it successfully or not.
I would recommend this book if it seems like your vibe, or if you’re reading Lisa Jewell’s backlist.
