Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent
5.0
This book was incredible I am speechless.
Not speechless enough to not have things to say about it, but my brain is kind of on overload. This book is very dark and has some very uncomfortable themes and scenes and took a few turns that were surprising. But it was done so well and I am just in awe.
- Sally is such an intricate and intriguing character. Literally from the first chapter you know this is about to be a very different kind of character and story.
- The alternating perspectives are fascinating as it slowly puts pieces together - seeing both lives progressing and seeing the effects that Conor Geary had on both Sally and Peter.
- I really loved the way so many people rallied around Sally during everything. Obviously she dealt with a lot and seeing the people who stayed by her side, while also challenging her to make good choices or correct herself when she made bad choices. Accepting her differences while also helping her to understand how to integrate into the rest of the world.
- Peter’s story was painful and dark but took things to another level and helped maintain the pace of the story while Sally slowly progressed in her timeline.
- The way it all comes together in the end is just so good. So so good. I am in awe.
- I wish the covid stuff wasn’t really in there as it didn’t really add anything to the story. Like historically yes it lines up with the ending timeline, but I don’t really see why it was necessary.
- I was a little confused on why the audio was so vastly different from the print copy, like entire sentences and descriptions were changed or added or removed and it was challenging to match the two at some points. But I suppose it could just be international editions being different?
