We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix
5.0
Grady Hendrix strikes again! He has never let me down and I loved this book so much.
As a music geek, this book was everything. I wish I could hear the songs described in this book. Like to hear Troglodyte as it was imagined would be so cool.
A few particular points of attention:
- Kris was such a fascinating character and her journey to discover the truth and confront Terry was so interesting.
- Terry and the Black Iron Mountain concept was kind of mind blowing in its depth. Seeing the infiltration into every aspect of life - leading to violence and paranoia and even potentially an existential crisis over good and evil?
- The actual genius of the Troglodyte record being a central force through this whole book - subtly at first but then very clearly toward the end.
- The scene with JD in the car had my jaw dropped. It was very much the most vivid horror/violence depiction in the book and it was so good.
- I liked Melanie’s perspective and her journey of getting to the festival. I loved the intersection when Melanie and Kris meet. But I was a little sad that Melanie didn’t have more of a role in the ending.
- The epic scene on stage with the band is such a spectacular mental image.
