Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score
Did not finish book. Stopped at 62%.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. But what the hell did I just read?
I hated reading the first half, but was determined to keep going in hopes of it getting better. Then I continued hating the second half and also got so bored I couldn't keep going. I only read 59%.
Silas is quite possibly the WORST male love interest I have ever read. He is creepy, possessive, aggressive, pushy, and controlling. Maggie is his boss and yet he tries to tell her what to do and manipulate her into falling in love with him? No thanks.
A few points on why I couldn't stand this story
- Pg. 13, "Silas was already in lust before he got to her face." Yeah so this really set it up for a horrible start.
- How many times did Maggie ask him to leave, or leave her alone, and he ignored it? It's not cute persistence, it's annoying and disrespectful. Again, she's the boss why is he like this?
- Silas said so many inappropriate things to Maggie. As a woman and as an employer. His flirting was downright disturbing.
- Can this man not control his dog for like 5 minutes? Why would you bring your destructive and semi-uncontrollable dog to a construction work site - and especially for the first meeting/interview?? Make it make sense.
- Silas made Maggie apologize for confronting a couple of TEENAGERS who wanted to break in/vandalize the house (which they thought was empty and thus not actually looking to hurt anyone) without calling him - basically a stranger who has no actual say in her decisions. And she DID? She actually apologized and I wanted to scream.
- Silas continues to insert himself into every aspect of her life without invitation. Clingy, possessive, and irritating.
- How does a 37 year old man not know what YouTube is?? Like he would literally have grown up during its prime. He is unrealistically incompetent with tech/social media for a man his age - not just incompetent but completely ignorant.
- Maggie completely buys into everything. She falls for him despite his horrible and manipulative qualities. She lets him control her decisions more than she should considering she built her own success her way. She lets him tell her how she should live her life.
Honestly, the only good parts of this story were Dean and Cody, plus Kevin and the kittens (Dolly Parton and Taco... the names cracked me up). Okay, Nirina and Kayla were pretty cool too for the five minutes they were there.
I loved the idea of the landscaper being the love interest, but this was just not good. It was painful. I am surprised I made it as far as I did. But honestly, I didn't quit soon enough.
Sorry Lucy Score, I loved a few others, but this one was not it.
