First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this - it took me a while to really get into it and fully comprehend the depth of the magic and occult themes. But once everything was set up the story was interesting and kept getting better over time.
I am definitely excited to jump right into the sequel after how the end of this one left things.
- If you have any concerns about trigger warnings, I advise you to pause and look into them because this book covers quite a few dark and disturbing themes. I do think they were handled well, but it’s still a lot.
- Alex was a great protagonist. Strong with a dark secret that allows her to understand more than others expect.
- Darlington was an excellent character. The flashback chapters to when he was around gives us a glimpse but not knowing what happened to him in the present time makes you want to keep reading to hopefully find out what did happen. (And when you do: WOW)
- I love Dawes. She’s the real hero here.
- This ended up being a very convoluted and twisted story. I like where it went and I like where it’s headed with the sequel.
- There were a few moments where I could predict what might come next, but mostly this book kept me on my toes.
