“Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Fairies” hooked me from the jump!
I loved the titular character, Emily Wilde. She’s a little prickly and a lot awkward, focused solely on her goal of learning more about the faerie folk in a remote, freezing town. She’s just like me, for real.
The epistolary style worked beautifully for this story and I loved how there were footnotes and other “reference materials” included within the text. It wasn’t something I’d encountered before and Fawcett flawlessly pulled it off.
The plot wasn’t anything necessarily groundbreaking, but it was cute and well written. Fawcett wrapped up enough in this book to satisfy the reader but left plenty to explore in the next book!
