This was just so lovely in so many ways. The story and characters are so deeply hearfelt. It's all so genuine, and I just felt so comforted while reading it. I loved the approach of focusing more on trans joy in sports than the negative that we so often see. And the author does it so well. Gene is so unapologetically trans and proud, and i love seeing that. This story gives the reader a lot of hope, and I walked away feeling good after finishing this read. The author handles the mental health rep (Luis' anxiety and panic attacks) and Gene's ADHD with so much care and respect. It's so relatable and believable. It was so easy to get into the story. I got a little lost with some of the technical baseball jargon, but that's on me because baseball isn't my bag. Overall, this was such a fantastic and memorable read. I had such a great time all around and implore anyone and everyone to check this one out and give it a chance.
