Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill
Did not finish book. Stopped at 74%.
It reads like an attempt at a darker version of Eragon. Unfortunately it lacks the appealing characters of Eragon.
Extremely slow start (odd prologue like always with high fantasy books that has no actual connection to anything else yet) and it takes around 30% until the story gets going. Very predictable in terms of character behaviour and dialogue. Very repetitive in phrases as well, which sours the reading experience for me. I want an engaging story with appealing prose and not … this. It’s dry and boring. Very stereotypical in events as well (super evil Empire, parents being killed, one best friend being a bookworm while the other one drinks too much and is a flirt, …). As someone who has two siblings: the book has such an unrealistic portrayal of a sibling relationship, it’s not funny anymore.
