I am such a sucker for sports related books, movies, TV shows, anything! Because there is something so special about something that brings so many people together, that makes people feel so much for the same thing, that is something that can be such a constant for some people. And in this book all of those things and more were so perfectly depicted. This book was so beautifully written. And I loved everything about it.
Ben and Annie were perfect. They were SO tender and SO soft with each other. I loved watching them really get to know each other as adults. Watching them fall in love was so much fun. And their slow burn was deliciously written, the tension, the longing, the apprehension on Annie’s part for so many reasons. I was desperate for Ben’s POV, but I really thought we were able to see so much of his person and thoughts through Annie. The closer they got the more emotional I got, I felt like I could FEEL Annie falling for him and still felt her struggling and it just made me SO emotional watching them really trying to figure it out!
The overarching storyline was heavy, and I really appreciated that it was written well. And it was really able to show how sports can be toxic and unfair for so many people involved, while also bringing so much joy to so many people. Annie and Ben are perfect examples of that.
Jessica Joyce wrote a blurb for this which is the reason I read it, and once again her recommendation did not fail me! And Kyla Garcia narrated the audio so I’m going to have to listen because I love her so much!!
