Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

While I enjoyed this one – as I enjoy most of the Sanderson I read – I don’t think it was his strongest. I thought the tones in the different storylines clashed at times (especially the mid-book contrasts between Siri and Vivenna), and there are a lot of unanswered questions and hanging plot threads at the end. It reads like a book that’s meant to have a sequel, but the sequel hasn’t been written (and, indeed, is fairly low down on Sanderson’s to-write list). That said, it was interesting to read some of the characters knowing that they turn up in Stormlight Archive (many under different names), and imagining how they got from where they are in Warbreaker to where they are in Roshar. I wouldn’t necessarily have wanted to read this one before Mistborn or Stormlight Archive, but it’s a fun read to round out the rest of Sanderson’s back-catalogue.
