Jumping into this after the scrumptious feast of 'A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder' felt like indulging in a sweet dessert. It’s a murder mystery that’s not too intense, perfect for both adults and middle schoolers alike. Reminded me of the good ol’ Nancy Drew days, but with a modern spin that kept things fresh.
The family drama between Kate, her mom, Zach, and his dad was grippingly portrayed, but the mystery of the missing brother had me scratching my head. I mean, how do you not talk about that with your own kids? Yet, it kinda made sense in a twisted way, reflecting the times when we didn’t exactly air our dirty laundry. Zach’s mom popped up now and then, but not enough to disrupt the flow. Just added to the intrigue, I suppose.
The ending wasn’t what I expected, but it had a twist that left me hungry for more. Overall, the story flowed nicely, even if there were a couple of unnecessary detours. But hey, they tied up nicely in the end.
