A Ripple of Power and Promise by Jordan A. Day
Did not finish book. Stopped at 13%.
God, the FMC is fucking rude to everyone because „she’s hurt“ (as if that’s a good excuse), the two MMCs are a laughingstock. Their dialogue with the FMC is so cringy that it hurts. Serious special snowflake syndrome for her. I bet she gets absolute super powers when it comes to magic.
It’s considered as fantasy but it reads more like contemporary romance with added magic. Tons of useless descriptions of dresses as if the author had an entire Pinterest board that served for inspiration. And the description of eye colours, I can’t. The author fell into the trap of mentioning eye colours even if the characters are far away from each other. Unless you have some extremely enhanced eyesight, you can’t see someone’s eye colour from far away. 🥲 It’s a fine line between giving enough descriptions to create an image in the reader's mind or by overdoing it with endless descriptions. Also, very modern language and phrases like "Also, can I just say, WOW? That is seriously some dress." — just no. It’s extremely irritating to read in a fantasy novel.
