The Book Haters' Book Club by Gretchen Anthony
5.0
Laney and Bree's mom is a co-owner in Over the Rainbow, an independent little bookstore. When her business partner unexpectedly passes away, Irma announces the bookstore is going to be sold and she's retiring to Florida. This decision is shocking for a number of reasons. First, Bree works for her mom and, given that her mom isn't handing the store over to her, will soon be unemployed. Worse is the sale in question is for a laughably low price that doesn't seem reasonable to her daughters or her late partner's husband.
Determined to outwit the unscrupulous company trying to buy out their childhood safe haven, the girls partner with Elliot's grieving husband to save the store. Shenanigans ensue, some of which are quite comical and caused me to chuckle aloud more than once. Among the sub-plots are a sweet romance, a marital decision, family secrets, and lots of grieving.
There were also several book recommendations, which I enjoyed. I may even pick up one of them as it deals with grief and I feel like I am still navigating these uncertain waters myself.
