The Black Queen by Jumata Emill

4.0

Omg
The wiring was fantastic. I held onto every word. The suspense, the twists and turns and it was just a good old fashion mystery who done it. I finished it in two days!

The book is told in two points of view. The best friend of the recently crowned prom queen and the girl who got beat out for prom queen. The small southern town with the black students having to share the highschool with the white students shows how racism is still happening by even what classes these students take. The school crowns their first black prom queen, but she ends up dead and the former white nominee (who has a family legacy of former prom queens to follow) is the suspect.

Can’t wait to buy this YA for my students! It’s my #3 read of the summer (behind the Ace of Spades#1 & Skin of the Sea#2)
