The Pairing by Casey McQuiston

4.0

This was one of my most anticipated reads the moment I heard Casey McQuiston was writing a new book, and then every new thing I learnt about it made me even more excited, but then also I think I was a little soured on the book because of the SMP boycott and all the people breaking the boycott to post about this book.

Anyway.

There were things I liked about this book, and most of them were in the second half. But I really did not like the whole Americans treating Europe like a theme park thing. Everyone who lives in Europe is not a bisexual who is desperate to fuck you. Everyone who travels to Europe doesn't magically turn bisexual and then go back to being homo, hetro or ace the moment they get home. Having a bet to fuck as many people as possible is not a nice thing to do, and I can't really route for characters that think that's a good idea. That's like, frat boy douchebag bullshit right there.

I still like the concept and the settings of this book, and I'll probably listen to the audiobook at some point, but I just wish it wasn't so American.
