Let’s start by saying I really enjoyed this book and I ordered book 2 at the 25% mark because I knew I would want to continue the story. There are several questions I have after finishing that I hope will be answered in the next book 🤞
Despite the high rating, there will be some complaints in this review 😅 Let’s begin 🙏

*I think this is NA, but it reads more like upper YA aside from the spicy scene

Things I liked:
- This was fast-paced and had the perfect balance of description and dialogue for me. I was never bored.
- The witches getting receivings of new spells was something I hadn’t seen before in a book, so I thought that was cool instead of the witches just being born with all of their power at once.
- I have the hardcover version and the book underneath the dust jacket is STUNNING 😍
- The trials were unique
- The dynamic between the FMC and her best friend was great
- There were many interesting hints dropped throughout the book that piqued my interest and kept me engaged with the overall plot and not just the romance
Things I didn’t like:
- The romance feels random. This may be explained in book 2, but this is one of those stories where the love interests are instantly and inexplicably drawn to each other. I’m not even sure why the MMC loves the FMC—it felt like it came out of nowhere, so I would have liked to see more depth there
- WHY WAS THE SEX SCENE RANDOMLY KINKY?! Ok so, I love a good kinky scene, but this felt extremely out of place. The entire scene felt like it was thrown in
at the end to appease the audience, but it fell flat. The timing was odd and I feel like this should have been pushed to book 2. So not only did the scene itself feel misplaced, but it was kinky out of nowhere. This was their first time together and there was no slow exploration of each other, no discussions, just BAM!I’M GOING TO FUCK YOU WITH AN ICILCE 👁️👄👁️ I wish the build up to this had been better to explain this 😂 I think this should have been introduced a little further down the line in their relationship, not as their first time. - I couldn’t tell what time period this was supposed to be in. There are modern phrases used but the style of their clothing and environment suggests a different period
