The Woman in the Purple Skirt by Natsuko Imamura

4.0

After enjoying This is Amiko, Do You Copy? I wanted to read Natsuko Imamura’s most well known publication, The Woman in the Purple Skirt. I would still say that Amiko’s story was my favourite but I loved this story of obsession and loneliness. It is dark and unsettling, and ambiguous but the themes explored are so important. I understand the link to Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata but this was definitely more ominous in tone. I will continue to read more from this author as this is definitely my type of translated fiction.
