The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson

5.0

Why did I love this SO MUCH?? Shifter romance/smut is apparently officially in character for me so that's been a nice self-realization. This is who I am now I guess...

As usual, here's my unfiltered thoughts upon finishing:
- Fake Dating is my favorite trope and this was everything I wanted.
- Noah and Mackenzie were lovable characters, I truly wanted them to be happy and I loved their story.
- The side characters were great, they had meaning and added some levity but also some important scenes that I loved - Noah's mom had a quote that stood out to me and I love when I find those little golden nuggets
- They had some really healthy communication (ya know, apart from the main issue of fake dating where they refuse to face their true feelings) about their arrangement and it made for more mature interactions that I appreciated.
- thank god for no accidental pregnancy
- WHY WAS THERE A 20 PAGE SMUT SCENE - I couldn't have kept count of how many times they had sex even if I tried, like a marathon sexcation forreal.
- Too much smut. But the smut was still tasteful if that makes any sense. Like I didn't hate it, it was just too much.

Minor spoiler kinda sorta for the last 100 pages
- Third act breakups are the worst, BUT I didn't hate this one? It didn't last long and Mack ripping him a new one was everything. She did not let him off the hook easily and I appreciate that.
- WHY DENNIS WHY like eff that guy, but also I love the way Noah and Mack finally team up, use their brains, and take down the asshole plaguing their lives and careers. GO TEAM
