Why hadn't I read this sooner? I'm way behind the times on this one, but I am so happy I have finally read this. This book did not disappoint. This is a great queer coming-of-age story. Also, I unfortunately watched the movie adaptation before I even thought to read this book, and let me just say that the book is so much better. This is a much better experience. The drama is very fitting for the teenager age group the story is based around. It seems a little silly at times as an adult, but putting yourself back at that age, those emotions make a lot of sense. There is a lot of self- discovery and self-acceptance in this story, and not just by Simon, but also amongst his friend group and peers. And, especially his blackmailer Martin. Everyone learns some sort of lesson in this story, and it's all a part of growing up. Overall, I absolutely adored this story and highly recommend it to anyone else who hasn't read it yet!
