One by One by Freida McFadden

3.0

One by One is a fast-paced mystery thriller by the popular psychological thriller author Freida McFadden. This one is a 'deserted in the woods' storyline where the characters are mysteriously dying one by one after getting stranded.
The majority of the book is from Claire's POV who is definitely the main character at the centre of the friendship group. Sporadically throughout there is also chapters from 'Anonymous' which is hinted as one of the members of the group that may be the killer as the chapters get darker and darker. The mystery kept me guessing throughout and I really didn't know who to trust.
I really enjoy Freida's writing style, the short chapters go by so quickly it is hard to put her books down and it really increases the intensity.
Unfortunately the ending did let this book down for me, it was quite unsatisfying. I just don't think the pay off was as great as the brilliant set up, which is gutting when it comes to mysteries and thrillers. The twists weren't up to usual Frieda McFadden standard in my opinion.
Overall I did enjoy my time reading this book and will continue to pick up new releases from this wonderful author.
