Saga, Vol. 7 by Brian K. Vaughan

4.0

3.5*

It'd been a while since I read one of these so had to go back to the previous volume and refresh myself a little. This is the lowest I've ever rated a volume of Saga, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, I just didn't enjoy this as much as some of the others.
Although really fun whilst reading, looking back on it, not a lot actually happened. It was very filler-ish. Sure, a few important things happened, but none of it felt as monumental as some of the past events and revelations. I feel like the characters find themselves in more or less the same position as they were in at the end of the last one. I hope this really is just a case of a filler volume and not me getting fed up with Saga. I've always loved this in the past and I really don't want to end up getting bored. As much as I enjoy these characters and their personal politics, I also want stuff to happen too.

I mean, other than a couple of tragic character endings that genuinely broke my heart, I guess I just wanted a bit more from this. Perhaps I just feel a bit deflated with it because it was so depressing. Honestly, I don't think a single positive thing happened in this volume. It was a bit of a downer to read, tbh.

The artwork is fantastic, obviously, and I'm always interested to see what random race gets depicted next. Never fails to disappoint. I love the bright and unapologetic use of colours. It really brings all these alien worlds to life.

I'm definitely going to pick up the next one, but fingers crossed I enjoy it more.
