The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
2.25
Honestly I was barely able to pay attention and follow this story so it was rough.
I almost dnfed but it was such a quick read that I kept the audio going while I prepped a crock pot meal. The dry rub on my pulled pork was more exciting. Still don't know what exactly was happening but let's get into it...
- There are multiple timelines going on and we jump back and forth A LOT - this is increasingly difficult to navigate just over audio, but I was using physical + audio and it was still a lot
- There are quite a few POVs which just means a lot of characters to know and understand and this combined with the timeline jumping made it hectic as heck
- The actual plot of this was interesting and I like where the creepiness factor played in with the birds, but the story completely lost me in the middle when I felt like nothing was happening and I started not caring. And this sucks because I do like the setting of a retreat/manor with disturbing backgrounds.
- From what I understood of the ending "reveals"/plot twists, I do like where some of the story went. But largely, I didn't understand much so I have no opinions.
- I wish I could say this was the first time I have felt this way about a Lucy Foley book (being confusing and having pieces that are hard to follow - I'm looking at you, The Paris Apartment), but it's not so I fear that maaaaaybe I might not like this author in general?? Seems like a bold statement that I will revisit at a later time.
