What Lies Between Us by John Marrs
dark
mysterious
sad
tense
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? No
3.0
As I recently read The Marriage Act by John Marrs, and enjoyed it for its original premise, I wanted to read another to establish if he is a new dependable thriller author for me.
I think where this book falls short is the ridiculousness of the situation, so many bad decisions are made along the way to the point where it is honestly unrealistic.
It felt very predictable at the 60% mark where you could see the twists a mile off, but this was followed by the last 40% surprising me a couple of times. The characters were also very unlikeable so I wasn't really rooting for anyone and I feel like I needed more compassion for the characters and their respective situations.
So this was a middle of the road thriller for me, I got through it pretty quickly but also I can't see this being very memorable as it felt similar to other books I've read before.
