Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 2 by James Tynion IV
4.0
The Fussy Reader
This is a cool little story and I'm still enjoying it. Though I don't think as much happened in this volume as the first one, it was interesting to learn more about Erica's past and the organisation she works for.
Monsters are still killing the children, in rather gruesome ways too, and she's still trying to stop them, but the concept is cool and creepy enough that it doesn't become boring. I love that only children and monster hunters can actually see the monsters, and all other adults see nothing but the devastation.
The art style isn't bad. A little crude at times, which does actually feel like it fits the mood of the comic, so I have no real gripe regarding the art. The use of blood is pretty effective too. Gory without being gratuitous.
I have to say, I HATE the way this is formatted. Instead of reading down the pages like regular graphic novels, it reads across two pages. I always forget this when returning to it and so I'd start reading, realise none of it makes sense and then remember the shitty sideways format and have to start over. Because of this alone, I'm docking a star. This format may work fine when reading a physical copy, but when reading an ebook, as I was, it makes reading this graphic novel a chore, constantly flipping back and forth between pages. I actually hate it so much.
Despite this, I really enjoy this series and will be going straight into volume three, cause this volume really leaves us hanging.
