The Stars Who Bleed by J.R. Szpila

4.0

Picking up where the first book left off, River has now discovered that she has a Spitarian sister she never knew. And not only that but that she is also half Spirtarian herself and has unknowingly had her magical abilities suppressed all her life. While her sister, Iris, is solely focused on the revenge of her father’s death and the slaughter of her village, River is trying to focus on bringing her two worlds together. However, River’s mother, Queen Castor, has denounced her as the heir to the throne. Placing a gap between the only life she has known of her former lover and best friend, Bass and the one she is currently living.
Meanwhile, the kingdom’s children start to go missing. Iris and River set aside their differing agendas to find out who is taking the children and why. How can River find time to cultivate her unwavering pull towards Ky, save the innocent children, form a bond with her sister and end this war? Will she be able to accomplish all that is required of her or will she yet again lose those that are closest to her?
Overall rating 4/5
My heart broke for River, when will someone choose her first? And Ky’s long lost love needs to stay lost. I really hope this does not become another Bass situation. Hopefully River will come back in book three as a baddy ready to set the world on fire. I loved the dynamic that Iris and Elora’s characters brought to the plot. I also enjoyed the full circle of Ky’s mother having the prophecy in the beginning of book one then being more involved in book 2.
