At this point I have to admit to myself that it’s very hard for adult fantasy to catch me.
When I heard of this book, I thought it would be perfect for me. Exactly my taste. But instead I had to drag myself through. I wasn’t hooked at any point and just wanted to get it over with. None of the characters particularly caught my attention, the romance didn’t convince me and the story wasn’t very enticing to me either. It’s a slippery slope with fantasy trying to tackle its world’s politics and this one is one of many that didn’t interest me. The world building was interesting but not packaged by the right storytelling. I don’t know if it’s the books fault or if my taste just really wasn’t compatible.
