Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen

Just finished.

Took me a while to get into it, been on a bit of a spicy romance kick so switching to a YA took me a while LOL.

What a fantastic read. The action, the description of the world and the mythology was great. Best way for me to describe it is Little Mermaid meets African mythology about water gods/creatures and how they interacted with the slave trade.

The character building was really good. I got attached to quite a few. The drama, the adoration, and the strength of these characters was really well created. It starts a bit slow but there are actions scenes thrown in to keep you interested. It’s a world and character building book so it will be a bit dry in spots but the action will make those spots make sense later on

For a YA novel suggestion it will be now my #2 for students this fall (2023 Sept school year, sorry, but Aces of Spades will be my #1 for a while)
