The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead
4.0
This book was so cute I had such a good time with it. The fake dating will always be a favorite of mine and this did not disappoint. Despite a few points that were mildly irritating, I genuinely loved reading this and devoured it pretty quickly. I felt like actual visceral reactions to the tension and stress the characters were experiencing. Once again, Ashley Winstead has not let me down.
- Alexis and Logan were both such good, strong leads. They were not boring, they were not overwhelming, they were great.
- You know that moment when you’re reading and you see something coming that you really don’t want to happen? Well this book had so many close calls but every prediction I had ended up being mostly wrong which made me so happy.
- Nora and Cary were excellent side characters that really added to Logan’s team’s vibes.
- Lee was the real villain here. She was the reason Alexis had so many self confidence issues (even if it wasn’t really Lee’s fault) and then Lee forced her to have dinner with Will and Lee invited Will on the trip and Lee had such high expectations for her that it cause Alexis to falter.
- I did get a teensy bit annoyed with Alexis at her inability to consider the consequences of her actions. Like if I were in her shoes I would be walking on EGGSHELLS but she was out here making bold moves without regard.
- Obviously fake dating ends with them having real feelings, but I feel like this time it felt like they really should have been able to figure things out sooner - it was the back and forth that got to me. Pining, kissing, pretending like it didn’t happen/avoiding really addressing it and then starting the cycle over. Given the high profile situation, it feels like they should have been able to work things out better.
