Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum
4.0
I really enjoyed this slice-of-life novel and I love how it was suggested for fans of Matt Haig's The Midnight Library and Gabrielle Zevin's The Storied Life of AJ Fikry which are two 5-star books for me. I just adore books about books, about libraries, about bookshops! I also love translated fiction and this Korean novel was no exception.
I completely fell in love with these characters and felt deeply for them and their successes. I loved the themed chapters and even though there isn't a big overarching plot, it is wonderfully cosy and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
For me this book just needed some further editing. I just think the writing could have been tighter, for instance sometimes the prose was repetitive and therefore redundant. The book could have been shorter and still carried the same important messages. It made me very emotional, and any book that can touch my heart is great in my eyes.
