I wish this romantic Fantasy had a little more…. Fantasy elements? There were barely any. Just talk about vague gods and a gift that is hardly brought up or seen used. The world building has been well done, so far…. It there isn’t a lot that has been revealed, possibly due to hidden history elements.

The love triangle is an interesting one. I felt like I truly didn’t know who was having more of an effect on the FMC until later in the book. I liked being kept on my toes. Not knowing who was the prince and who was the assassin was so fun! It was a great way to keep my wheels spinning and actively trying to solve this mini puzzle. The push and pull of the three POV’s was really engaging.

Many people don’t like the mundane life that’s happening for most of this book. I argue that mundane is exactly what the FMC is looking for. I really appreciated that she was truly happy living as a bar maid! She wanted simplicity and the freedom to live life on her terms.

Also, thank goodness the author reminds us that no one looks or smells good after weeks on the road. I completely appreciate that not being overlooked. Little details like that make the story more “real” for me while reading
