The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

This was an absolutely delightful quick read, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The setup: a man wearing blue jeans and a cloak wakes up in a medieval field, with a human-shaped charred section around him, and no idea how he got there or who he is. This is a book that doesn’t take itself seriously AT ALL, and it’s wonderful. Especially delightful are the little inserts from the in-universe book “The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England” as well as the protagonist’s tendency to rank everything on a 5-star scale. (“4.5 stars for this tree: would hide behind again.”) You don’t need to know anything about Sanderson’s other works to read this one – it’s completely standalone and well worth the time if you want something lighthearted.
