Spells For Forgetting by Adrienne Young

4.0

Mini Audiobook Review: I had been hesitant to read any of Adrienne Young books because I always thought she was fantasy or high level magical realism but a friend suggested this one so I thought lets give it a go. While there is some magic involved it wasn't too bad for my witty brain.

"She felt like air to me"

This book has a mystery, romance (second chance), small town feel and a little magic. There were several narrators for this book (Dan Bittner was fantastic as August, loved his voice) and I am glad that the contents of the chapters to show which character it was. I will say there were a lot of characters and then to remember how each of those characters were connected to one another and to the plot.

Even though there was magic that ran through the course of the island, I was mostly invested in the mystery of Emery's best friend death that happened 14 years prior. Everyone accused August of killing Lily but he was never charged because there was no evidence that it was him. So when he returns back to the island after his mother's death, he is not welcomed.

I just really like how the story progressed & how we see the island and the main characters from the perspective from those on the island. This would be good for those who need a mystery and like a little magic. Great for the upcoming fall season!
