✨My Opinion✨

That. PROLOGUE! Holy Sh*t!  Seeing more into the MC’s ancestral experiences and using that to inform her… hinting at what’s to come. That trend continued through the book and while I wanted more action going on for the present day characters, it was well done.

I feel like SO much is still sitting in the future if this series, waiting to be uncovered. They’re a lot more questions than answers. And I LOVE that. There was a lot of building, with telling rather than showing, establishing a lot of groundwork for what I assume is going to be a LOT of resolutions in the upcoming story.

Thank goodness Bree had a birthday and is 17 now… although I still want her to be older. The no sense of self-preservation that is typical in YA fantasy is definitely present. Bree is doing a lot of self/ancestral discovery in this book.

I could not put this book down. It picked up right where the first left off and we were plunged straight into action that never let up. More layers of this magic world are uncovered. And we finally see more of the Root magic branch of things. I loved seeing that aspect of the story when the first was so heavily Arthurian and round table driven.

The love triangle is actually well done. It’s giving so much push and pull when it comes to finding the true essence of each connection. It’s still unresolved, and I don’t mind one bit. Things heat up, once again, YA so it’s nice warmth (not spice) added to a stressful and trauma centric book. Because being chased by Desmond is traumatic in and of itself… let alone everything else that’s going on.

Over all, I loved this as much as the first. It was a great second book and the cliffhanger doesn’t even make me mad… that’s how much I love this story.
