Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll

emotional reflective sad tense

4.5

I don’t even know where to begin writing this review but this book was so unexpected, in a good way, even after seeing glowing reviews. I don’t read much true crime and this is obviously a fictionalised account of a true story, but it really hit me hard emotionally.
I don’t usually tend to enjoy split timeline narratives as there is usually one I prefer so I find it difficult to concentrate and enjoy the chapters of the other timeline in between, essentially rushing to get back to the timeline I prefer, but this one did work very well and highlighted both Ruth and Pamela’s stories, along with Tina and all of the women affected.
I mean what incredible and passionate writing from Jessica Knoll. I was captivated by the writing style and I really think this was a triumph. Whilst I am an emotional person and regularly cry at books, this one hit me in a way I just didn’t expect, leaving me sobbing at the end. I just felt so attached to these women and the bonds they created.
I would highly recommend this book to a wide audience and would definitely read from this author again in the future.
