The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent

Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
DNF'ed at 39%.

I should know better by now if BookTok hypes a book.

This one is pretty much a mash of ACOTAR and Hunger Games, just with vampires instead of Fae.

World-building doesn’t really exist. The author does info dumping about the world but never explains points or works with them. I can tell you that there are multiple deities (major and minor ones) but only three of them are named. One got even some kind of field of expertise that they oversee. I have no idea how the world actually looks like because there’s not enough information about it. There are three vampire clans and they fight each other but who knows why and for what?

The majority of the 39% I have read are repetitions how weak Oraya is, how strong and beautiful (emphasis on beautiful) vampires are but also how cruel and evil they are. Oraya trusts no one but her adoptive dad ofc.

My guesses for the rest of the book:
- Raihn and her will fuck a lot (despite the hinted traumatic event that Oraya went through) and he will have a massive dick
- She will win the competition despite being so weak; so most likely the last three standing will be Mische, Raihn and Oraya. I suppose that Mische and Raihn will let her win.
- Some resurrection will no happen because it somehow fits into the story. Not sure who’s going to die but it’s likely either Oraya or Raihn.
- At the end, Oraya will find out that her adoptive father is her father by blood; making her a half-vampire and heir to their clan. Would explain her magical ability because humans are supposed to be weak.
- Raihn is most likely the heir to his vampire clan. So convenient that he's fucking Oraya then. Might result in tension in the 2nd book because either she feels betrayed or there's an uprising in the vampire clans because they don't want to be reunited.
- Got weird vibes from the Vampire priest, so maybe he’ll be a (minor) villain.
