Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
5.0
Immediately adding this to my top books of the year. I AM CRYING this book was so good. I was laughing, crying, screaming, kicking my feet. The way this book sucked me in and did not let me go, I am well and truly OBSESSED.
- This book felt like a rom com with subtle fantasy/magic elements and I was INVESTED
- Evie is such a fun lead. Her attitude and sunshine perspective is refreshing and makes her working for the Villain that much more exciting.
- The Villain is such an interesting character. Genuinely morally grey at its finest.
- Even the side characters were endearing. Blade, Becky, and Tati were such fun additions that added so many great, entertaining scenes. Even Kingsley was such a fun little character and I can’t wait to hear more of his story eventually.
- THE TWIST. My jaw could not have dropped lower and I sat laughing in irony and pain as I read the last like 50 pages.
- I NEED book two RIGHT NOW waiting is not an option (alas waiting is the only option and I am heartbroken for it)
- I don’t know how it was possible but this book just had me with big ole heart eyes the whole time.
- Yes, this book is BookTok coded for sure, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. It’s a fun read with two lovesick characters who refuse to name their feelings despite everyone knowing how they feel. It’s a classic and I love it.
- The narrator had me wanting to rip my ears off so that’s the one drawback. It was choppy and irritating. It did get a little better over time but I almost stopped using audio in the first 20% because I couldn’t stand the narration.
