TROPES
👽 One Bed

I’ve been looking forward to this book since I heard about it, and it delivered everything I wanted and needed it to.

In my eyes, this book did no wrong. We have two broken people, both for entirely different and valid reasons, coming together to take care of each other in ways they didn’t realize were possible for them. Hayden is very much an act of service person, doing anything he can to help Hallie in the moments she needs it. And Hallie both learns that relationships are so much more than what her last one was and that there are people in the world she can be in a romantic relationship with that care for and support her the way she needs.

I love their dynamic so much. The push and pull, especially as they investigate different cryptids and ghosts and otherwise spooky things, is exactly what I hoped this book would be. As someone on Hayden’s side of the argument, I loved how patient he was with his explanations, but also how excited and eager he was to explain theories and share information. Hallie was respectful and fun about it, while also allowing herself to understand why believers are out there, doing the work to see all the evidence that Hayden and the internet presented her with.

I need more books like this. I need more MMCs like Hayden. And I need more FMCs like Hallie who stand up for themselves not with a huge, dramatic bang but with a well timed email when no one is expecting it.
