Wildfire by Hannah Grace
5.0
August 2024 Reread Review: I am just as obsessed with this book now as I was the first time I read it. The vibes are still immaculate. BUT I want to amend my opinions on the epilogue because I actually love the little nuggets and easter eggs that hint at what is to come, and it means even more when you reread so you can catch those hints.
Original Review from 2023
A one night stand turns even more complicated when Russ and Aurora later discover they are co-counselors at a summer camp. A budding (forbidden?) romance with forced proximity ensues and the two must navigate the summer in secret.
I am giving this 5 stars, but the ending/epilogue makes me think more 4.5.
First and foremost, I am obsessed with the summer camp vibe. It was immaculate. I love summer camps and this book captured the beauty and the fun of it so well. As soon as I saw the setting I knew I had to read.
Second, I really appreciate the way Hannah Grace portrays very real and relatable traumas and relational issues in her characters. Both Russ and Aurora deal with their own backstory issues in different ways and it was so refreshing to see that she did not shy away from addressing those issues.
Third, the romance was adorable. The sneaking around, the longing stares, it was all so good. I genuinely really liked the main characters.
Fourth, I freaking love the hockey team and wish they were my own friends sometimes. Reading about the guys again really made me so happy. Henry, JJ, Robbie, Nate, and even Stassie and Lola.
Critique?
The timeline here fits in between the ending and the epilogue of Icebreaker, so when you start this one, pretend like the Icebreaker epilogue didn’t happen.
The fight between Russ and Aurora toward the end happened so late in the story and lasted so short a time it almost seemed unnecessary.
